Read punctuation as word or WORD

The technique

Your textVim mode: Normal
Jump from notes.md to now. Before: open notes.md now. After: open notes.md now.

w would stop at the dot in notes.md. W only stops after a space, so it reaches now.

Keys in this lesson

W
Next WORD: skips punctuation, stops after spaces.
E
End of the WORD.
B
Back to the start of a WORD.

Before this lesson: Choose a word destination.

More about this lesson

Choose whitespace boundaries when punctuation belongs to one chunk.

W, E and B use WORDs: runs of non-whitespace characters. They ignore punctuation inside that run. They do not parse a URL, a filename or quoted text; whitespace inside quotes still separates WORDs.

Example

In “open notes.md now”, w from n stops at the dot, but W reaches now. E from n reaches d at the end of notes.md. B moves to the previous WORD start, or to the current start from its middle.
